Cookham’s gardens are full of mature beech, oak and lime that have been standing a good deal longer than the houses around them. Trees of that age need proper handling rather than a quick cut back from whoever happens to be passing through. We are qualified arborists working across Cookham village, Cookham Rise and Cookham Dean, and we judge every tree on its own condition. Call us and we will come out, take a proper look and give you a straight answer.
Felling and Sectional Dismantling
Where a tree is dead, unstable or too close to a building, we take it down in a controlled drop or piece by piece from the top using rigging equipment.
Pruning, Crown Reduction and Thinning
Lighter gardens, less wind resistance and healthier growth, achieved by removing the right branches rather than simply taking height off the top.
Hedge Cutting and Shaping
Seasonal trims and hard cuts on overgrown boundaries, including the long laurel, beech and leylandii runs that are common across the village.
Stump Grinding and Garden Clearance
Stumps ground out below ground level and overgrown plots cleared back to workable, usable space.
Careful Tree Care for Cookham's Older Gardens
A good portion of Cookham falls within a conservation area, and plenty of its trees carry preservation orders. That changes what is permitted and how the work has to be planned. We check the status of a tree before we quote, carry out the work to British Standard BS3998, and prune so the finished shape still looks like the tree grew that way. Our crews are used to narrow riverside plots, long boundary hedges and gardens where the only route in is through the house.

Do I need permission before pruning a tree at my Cookham property?
Quite possibly. Much of Cookham sits in a conservation area and many individual trees are protected by preservation orders. We check with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead before any work starts.
Can you work on trees in gardens with restricted access?
Yes. A lot of Cookham gardens have no side gate or vehicle access at all. We dismantle in sections, rig branches down by rope and carry material out by hand where we have to.
How quickly can you respond to a fallen or unstable tree?
We prioritise anything blocking access or leaning towards a building. Call us and we will get someone out to make the site safe as soon as we can, then agree to the full works afterwards.
What happens to the timber and branches once you have finished?
Everything is cleared from the site unless you ask otherwise. Brash goes through the chipper and is recycled, and cordwood can be cut to length and stacked for you if you burn logs.
Will the tree grow back once the stump has been ground out?
No. Grinding takes the stump and the main root collar down below ground level, which stops regrowth and leaves the ground ready for replanting, turf or paving.
