A mature tree can carry a whole garden, and a neglected one can put your roof at risk. We are a family run team of qualified arborists covering Abbots Langley and the surrounding Hertfordshire villages, working on everything from a single overgrown garden tree to a full site clearance. Every job is priced in writing before we start and left clean when we finish. Call 01494 623191 to arrange a free site visit.
Tree Felling and Removal
Controlled removal of dead, diseased or unstable trees, including sectional dismantling where a rear garden gives us no room to drop one whole.
Crown Reduction and Pruning
Reshaping to bring light back into the garden, take weight off failing limbs and keep the natural outline of the tree intact.
Hedge Cutting and Shaping
Seasonal trims, hard reductions and reclaiming boundary hedges and leylandii that have got well beyond their intended height.
Stump Grinding
Grinding the stump out below ground level so the ground can be turfed, planted or paved straight afterwards.
Local Tree Care for Abbots Langley Gardens and Grounds
Abbots Langley holds a lot of established oak, beech and ash, much of it older than the houses standing next to it. Trees at that stage need a light hand rather than a heavy one. Our arborists assess the health and structure of the tree first, then recommend the smallest amount of work that actually solves the problem. We are based a short drive away in Amersham, so quotes and callouts here rarely sit waiting.

Do I need permission before cutting back a tree in Abbots Langley?
Possibly. Three Rivers District Council protects some trees with a Tree Preservation Order, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks of written notice before any work begins. We check the status of your tree before quoting and deal with the paperwork for you.
How can I tell if my ash tree has an ash dieback?
Look for blackened, wilting leaves, early leaf drop from June onwards, diamond shaped lesions on the trunk and visible thinning at the top of the crown. Infected ash turns brittle quickly, so it is worth having it assessed sooner rather than later.
When is the best time of year to cut a hedge?
Late winter suits most hedges. We avoid the main nesting season between March and August unless the hedge has been checked for active nests first, as disturbing them is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.
What happens to the branches and timber once the work is done?
Everything is chipped and taken off site as standard, then recycled as mulch or biomass. If you burn wood at home, we will happily cut the timber to length and stack it for you instead.
Can you work on a tree in a garden with no side access?
Yes. Plenty of the gardens we work in around Abbots Langley are foot access only. We dismantle the tree in sections, lower each piece on ropes and carry the material out by hand, using boards to protect lawns and paving on the way.
